Lanzarote information by people who know Lanzarote

Last year the Avenida was closed from Jameos Hotel til San Antonio. I heard that at the moment (Sept.'08) they are working on the stretch between San Antonio and the Casino. No idea how long that will take, but after that they are going to work on the part from the casino to .... (CC Atlantico???).
If you have any up to date info, let us know!

Hi Eric as you will now know the works have started at the casino and looks like they are going towards the San Antonio. The traffic is still flowing in both directions past the works so far. This is a photo taken at 5.30 on Wed 24 September.

Hi

I looked at the link that Rafa left. Is there anywhere that we can see the plans in more detail? It's very blurred when you enlarge it.

I noticed yesterday that the road to Calle Norway is now open too so you can completely avoid the Avenida when travelling from the old town to San Antonio. Are there any plans to extend this to Matagorda? Someone did mention to me last week that there is a website detailing all of the road plans for Lanzarote on the net but I don't know how true this is.

Have you seen the result between the Jameos Playa Hotel (Matagorda) and the San Antonio Hotel? I think they did a very nice job.

Hi Dean have a look at this - its all in Spanish but you can get the idea.

Its interactive so you have to root around and find the different links, but worth the effort

On our last visit in December, people seemed to be migrating to the old town (PDC) which was very busy and active because of the works in the New Town. It was difficult to walk with the children along the new town because in alot of places you had to walk in single file...not easy with kids.
I can see that it will all be worth it in the long run but I was glad to know about it in advance from this site otherwise it would have been quite a shock.
We decided to get a car and get over the island and saw alot of other resorts...enjoyed playa blanca alot.
